Jeep cherokee 4x4 question (2006 model)?

Question: Jeep cherokee 4x4 question (2006 model)?

(Posted by: Jacob on 2010-03-06 17:01:45)

Hello. I have been looking around, Jeep shopping I guess you could say, and I found a great deal on a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4. I took it for a test drive and didn't see a knob or anything to switch it from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive. Are these Jeeps all time 4 wheel drive or did I just not look hard enough? I asked the dealer and he had no clue. Thanks for any help Also, is it going to be a switch I'm looking for or what? Is it a button? Where exactly is it. It is a 4x4. It says 4x4 on the back

If there's no 4x4 badging on the outside, it's a 4x2. If there's 4x4 badging, it's a 4x4... How much of a 4x4 is the question. If there isn't a chrome handle shaped like a "T " next to the gearshift, there's no low range (4Lo). The 4x4 models are all full-time, so there's no shifting from 2WD into 4WD. Models with QuadraTrac II (any of the V8s; none of the V6 models) offer high and low range while models with QuadraTrac I (the 3.7L V6) only offer high-range. For light off-road use either system is fine. For more capability, you'll want a vehicle with low range.
