Question: Jeep cherokee or grand cherokee?

Hi i am turning 16 and will have about $3000- $4000 to spend on my first vehicle. I do a lot of camping in remote areas that most vehicles cannot take me to. Jeeps can. I need their capabilities and cargo capacity. The off- roading isnt like rock crawling, but in Oklahoma you never know what kind of weather you will encounter or what type of landscaping is out there. I've seen mud holes, creeks/ rivers, mushy fields, hard fields, uneven forestry, etc. We have it all. I do not have anything to tow as of yet but it would be nice to have the capability and it would help maintain value(not that there will be much left after im through with it). I cant decide between the Cherokee or the Grand Cherokee. Mainly because of the Grand Cherokee's reliability reputation and the Cherokee's lack of the creature comforts the Grand Cherokee has for the same price and lack of rear headrests(easy fatal neck injury in car wreaks?). I need it to have 4WD, prefer a tow package, clear visibility(unlike the 99 2WD Mountaineer im stuck with) and a nasty craving for the wilderness.

Cherokee; easier to work on, not quite the same gas pig as the V8.

If you can get a Grand Cherokee for the same price as a Cherokee get the Grand Cherokee. They just have so much nicer confines than the Cherokee and they are just nicer overall. When it comes to trail riding or mudding the GC is just as good as a cherokee so there is really no downfall to buying the Grand Cherokee over the Cherokee.

I like the grand cherokee better. i did own a 1990 cherokee with the 4.0L , 5 speed transmission, and 4wheel drive. it was a wonderful jeep and i enjoyed alot of years owning it. but after buying my 94 grand cherokee with the V-8 and full time 4 wheel drive ,power everything, infinity sound system, and leather seats i fell for the G.C. the G.C. has head rests for 4 people. which ever you dhoose you won't go wrong.
