Question: Engine swap for 82 jeep cherokee (sj) ?

Hey there, i have an 82 Jeep Cherokee SJ thats got the the 4.2 liter/ 258 straight 6 in it and a 4 speed manual transmission. This Jeep is sitting because engine number 4 has died in it a couple years ago. After regular maintinence and mostly interstate driving, yet another engine 4.2 has bit the dust in this Jeep. What other engines can be put in it? What will directly bolt up if anything? If nothing else will bolt up, what can be put in with only a little (no major) modifications to the engine bay? By any chance, is there a diesel that can replace this 4th dead engine?
