Might be time to let the old clunker go. Call a tow truck or sell it for some $$$$s. It might be a serious problem that will cost you. Why put money into an old car. 12 year old jeep is like $400. phh |

If stalls or wants to stall when you come to a stop, check electric fuel pump and fuel filter. thats the first thing that comes to mind, but there are so many other things that can cause it to do that. |

If its stalling at and idle but runs when you step on the gas its probably the idle air control valve located on the side of the throttle body. They aren't hard to replace, remove the intake boot, take the throttle cable off, remove 4 10mm bolts on the throttle body and the IAC motor is held on with 2 torx screws. While you have it off, get some throttle cleaner and an old toothbrush and clean the throttle plate and surrounding area. When you put it back together it may sputter for a minute when first staring while any of the remaining cleaner burns off. p.s. Don't listen to people saying its worth $400, as long as the body isn't all beat up you can get $2500 or more all day long for a 98 Cherokee in decent shape. |

One of my jeeps used to do that ALL the time. i just took it to go get a tune up and it did wonders ps its not worth $400 especially if its an I6. just putting a little bit of money into is cheaper than buying a new car. my 93 has 210,000 miles with no end in sight. (and i still put money into it) |
