Im thinking of buying this 97 grand cherokee , runs great 100, 000 miles miles..i have heard that these vehicles were built to run forever and that you cant ask for a better car...so want to know your experience with the grand cherokee? it has the straight 6 engine in it, no leaks, not burning oil, no smoke, i drove it several hours and all was great.

I have worked at a Chrysler garage for nearly thirty years and this truck coupled with the 4.0 liter Inline 6 cylinder is the most bulletproof truck of all i have seen. 100k miles is nothing on this and if you dont drive alot the truck will outlive you. I have two of these personally and they are a 95 and a 99 and both have over 175000 miles and my 95 has 223,000 miles and no end in sight. The only rub on the whole vehicle is the fact they dont get that good of gas milage but as far as the 4wd and everything else you will not find a more durable truck except maybe the Ford Explorer which is right up there as well. My advice is buy it at a decent price ($2500-3000) and you will be very happy if you take care of it.

Use care and do some checks before buying a vehicle with 100,000 miles. I am old and careful. Almost all engines need some head rebuilding after 100, to 125, 000 miles. A compression and leak down tests are mandantory. For the real cheap price maybe even an rebuilt engine is a good choice. I am currently installing a rebuild engine into my child's Cherokee. Her Jeep has 133,000 miles. This is not a tough task but patience is required. Frank in Idaho

The inline 6 4.0L is a great engine. I've seen many go well over 200,000 miles. If you can get the history on the vehicle, like if the oil was changed regularly and it has been kept up, go for it. My best advise is to drive as many as you can, that way you can tell when something doesn't feel right.

Chris is right. the jeep will last a very long time if taken care of. i got 275,000 miles from a 1990 cherokee with the 4.0 and a 5 speed manual transmission. i also owned a 1983 AMC eagle 4x4 that had a 4.2L I-6 and an automatic transmission and ran for 275,000 miles before the head gasket blew out. i currently own a 1994 grand cherokee limited V-8 5.2L 4x4 and it currently has 186,000 miles on it and no problems. if you take care of your jeep and do all the maintenance at the specified times you will enjoy the jeep for years. good luck and happy jeepin
