1995 jeep grand cherokee limited rear differential.?

Question: 1995 jeep grand cherokee limited rear differential.?

(Posted by: hockeydude55 on 2010-03-10 17:16:52)

Hi, I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 3.73 ratio in the rear differential which is a 11- 41 gears. I have recently changed them, because the other ones broke, now my rear wheels will not keep in sync with the front wheels. They lock up and wine at high speeds, the gear that were replaced were a 11- 41, and the front end is all new also, what can I do to resolve the problem? I did the work myself, they are meshed properly, they are torqued to the right specification but the jeep did the same thing 3 years ago, and all teeth on the pinion broke from who ever did it before, been driving it in front wheel drive ever since. Who did the work? The pinion gear and the ring gear must be meshed properly. Too tight or loose will cause noise and wear. If you are certain that you have the correct gear ratios, the interface between the ring gear and pinion could be too tight.

Better find out what the new gear ratio is in the rear end. my guess is they installed the wrong gears. on the limited with full time 4x4 the front and rear ratios must match, no exceptions. if they are not matched then your Transfer case will break and that will be an expensive fix. tow it back to the shop and do not drive it till its fixed correctly. the shop that did the work should have known this.
