I just changed my draft shaft and its still there.i go over a little bump and this loud banging noise is coming from under my truck in the back..as soon as i put it in reverse and back in drive it goes away until of course i catch another bump. please help... hey guys thanks for all the answers.i brought it in today when it was making noise.the wire from my hand brake was loose and when i hit a bump it would get close to driveshaft and get caught in there.thats where the noise was coming form.when putting it in reverse they told me it would untie itself. SO FROM BEING TOLD IT WAS A DRIVE SHAFT, THEN THE DIFFERENTIAL AND OTHERS TOLD ME TRANSFER CASE IT TURNS OUT TO BE A LOOSE WIRE.UNBELIEVABLE.THX GUYS

This sounds to me like the nut holding the yoke on the front of the differential has loosened allowing you to have too much backlash. with both rear wheels off the ground and the vehicle in 2wd . Begin to rotate the rear wheels while watching the drive shaft yoke. You should be able to see some binding or hear noise if this is the issue. Next you can open the rear differential to do a visual inspection. Good luck

Sounds like it could be as simple as the rear shocks are worn out allowing the vehicle to "bottom out " or the spare tire is not tightened properly and is banging around

If the nut on the pinion was loose it would vibrate real bad and it would akso leak. It sounds more like the shock absorber rubbers are either worn real bad or are missing, or the rear shock mounting bolts are loose. Also check the exhaust, leave the truck on the ground and shake the truck and also shake the exhaust from the rear of the tailpipe. TOM
