Reliable rubicon information

Question: Question for all you jeep people out there (wrangler and rubicon). do 35x12.5x15 tires look too big to you?

Or, with the proper lifts do they look pretty good? Also, if you have them on your jeep, how do they affect your driving and how much of a decrease in gas mileage have you noticed? OK, one more question. On a maroon rubicon, what looks better, chrome wheels, or black wheels. Thanks. |

35 inch tires are a big jump from stock but they look awesome. You will need the proper suspension so that you do not damage the front and rear fenders or fender flares. You will also need to re-gear both the front and rear differentials. If you do not re-gear the jeep will feel very sluggish going up hills (especially an automatic), and it will lose on gas mileage because your foot will be to the floor trying to keep up. On the maroon Rubicon black wheels look really good. Also I would suggest that if you are going to put on 35 inch tires try a wider rim, like 15x10 matched with a 35x12.5x15 tire. You will feel much more stable driving, even on highway, not so top heavy. Also think about beefing up your axle shafts themselves. If you off-road you are going to want a chromoly axle-shaft to keep up with the torque of a spinning tire bouncing off of rocks or spinning in dirt or mud. |

35's look perfect on that ride. Black also looks good IMO. |

You will need to change the gearing for 35 " rubber. |

They look awesome. A friend of mine has 36 "s, with the little 4 banger engine, but he tops out at like 65 mph though! They will kill your gas mileage as well, and as others have said, you will need to get quite a few inches of lift, which will also need to be counteracted with gear modifications so that you go faster than 50 mph, and don't run down your transmission. I have(well had, it's now yellow = )) a maroon wrangler, and had both black and chrome... if you're gonna go chrome, go CHROME as in all out; not just the wheels. But chrome belongs on a hummer... not a hummer recovery vehicle (to all us jeep fans out there). |

Not knowing what year/ model vehicle you're talking about its impossible to tell you if they look good or not. You'll lose a couple mpg assuming you have stock gearing. It's impossible to tell you if/ how they'll effect your driving, since that depends on the tread pattern, but they'll most certainly make your vehicle heavier. Black wheels definitely. |

35's are great. I am running 37's on a 2005 Unlimited Rubicon. I had 35's on it and wanted bigger tires for more ground clearance. As far as mileage, I lost 3mpg with the 35's. Black wheels for sure! Chrome will rust! I would not run a 12 " wide wheel. All that would do is wear out your bearings and ball joints faster. A 9 or 10 " wheel is just fine. If you have the Rubicon, it already has 4:11 gears and the larger axles, along with lockers. I would recommend 4:56 or 4:88 gears if you go with 35's. I ran the 35's with a 4 " lift and had to go to 6 " coils when I went to 37's....soon to be coil overed so I can run 40's. |

For the wheels, get the Dick Cepek DC-1 black and machined. I've seen a lot of maroon jeeps with them and they look great on them. |
