Question: 05 jeep unlimited on a long road trip?
(Posted by: Michael V on 2009-09-20 13:23:39)
I've got a 05 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with 50k on it. Me and the wife are wanting to take a road trip from Arkansas to California. I've got 33 " tires, cold air, throttle body spacer, and exhaust. I was just curious what you other Jeep owners thought. Am I crazy for wanting to drive it out to California or would I be perfectly fine with it? It does have a hard top. and i do have an alarm on. if that helps your guys opinouns.Weve driven out there in my avalanche i used to have with 20, s and never had a theft problem. |

I have taken both mt 94 YJ on 35 " tyres and my 06 Rubi on 33 " tyres from Maryland to Oklahoma down to Texas and back in a single trip. Once I pulled a 2700 lbs trailer out to OK from Md, but pulled it back empty. Anyway the Jeep should be fine and you should be too. Both of those jeeps were soft tops kinda noisy but you get used to it so will she I suspect. As far as security get a rear lock box for your valuables. Don't leave anything that would entice a breakin. Maybe get a starter kill installed and an alarm pay attention to where you park it. Other than that The Wrangler make a nice trip vehicle. Hey if the weather is nice drop the top. |

Would be fine as long as your wife doesn't mind the noise that it makes . If you have hard top would be better . |

Wel if you can afford the fuel cost dont see a problem about a three day trip if you both drive and switch maybe faster made it from hamburg to las vegas last trip took three days wind was blowing 50 mph most or trip kind of suck for the whole trip ive made the trip across the states like 6 times on a motorcycle sure a jeep woul dbe better |

I would definitely take the Jeep. I would make several stops at OHV trails in the area. CA has some really good places to offroad...maybe even see if they are having a Jeep Jamboree at the same time. As for theft...if someone wants it, they'll take it. Just lower your deductibles for the trip and get comprehensive coverage (for theft) if you don't have it already. I live in Atlanta, transplanted from Missour, and rarely lock my vehicle. Enjoy it!!!! |
