A "POSI_TRACK " is a clutch pack in the rear differential that increases traction at the rear wheels. It is not electrical at all, strictly mechanical and not all jeeps are equipped with that option. A "LOCKER " is an aftermarket devise that locks both rear axles together for severe off roading conditions and can be operated electrically or by compressed air which would also have an electronic control. If the vehicle is equipped with a locker but someone has disconnected it suspect problems. At any rate it sounds like the owner doesn't know what the heck he's talking about and may be trying to scam you. And, no offense but, it's pretty obvious that you don't know enough about it to tell the difference. My suggestion is to take the Jeep to a reputable mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection before you make a deal or exchange any money. Tell the mechanic what the owner said about the mysterious "positive track " and ask him to check the whole thing over for any potential problems. If the owner doesn't want to let you do this then just find another jeep. Best of Luck! |
