Question: 1998 jeep wrangler tj dash lights are out... solutions?

(Posted by: Thomas on 2010-03-08 07:10:48)

I have a 1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ. My entire dashboard no longer lights up. This includes: AC and all dash gauges. My headlights work and my dome lights work. The only lights that don't work is the dashboard. I have checked the fuses and none of them are out. Anyone have any solutions

This dash is illuminated by a series of small bulbs(2). They could all be bunrt out which is unlikely or it is most likely the plug in that goes into the back of the panel is loose. You have to take it out either way so when you do first check the bulbs and if not wiggle the wires that go to the harness and see what you get. If it works great, if not it may be a under hood fuse that you missed cause theres really not much else that powers this unit.

It's either... A fault inside the headlamp switch, The connector on the switch loose or gone bad or Fuse 12 behind the glove box.

I had to re-do the ground connection for the dashboard in my 97 and my 99 to solve the same sort of problem with them.
