Brake question, 04 jeep wrangler..?

Question: Brake question, 04 jeep wrangler..?

(Posted by: ru7692 on 2010-07-25 21:29:47)

I recently bought a 2004 Jeep Wrangler. It has 45, 000 miles on it and it runs just fine. The one problem that I have with it so far is that when I put my foot on the brake, sometimes the car makes a grinding noise. It's almost like the car wants to stop, but can't. Could it be the brake pads?

It could be yes, and if it is you are destroying your rotors every time you press on the brakes. Depending on the type of rims you have you may be able to inspect the brakes without removing the tire. If you can't jack up the car and remove the front two tires (one at a time only). Generally the front pads wear the quickest so this is where you should start. Generally you can hear which pad is grinding but you don't want to drive on it if your grinding bare pads on rotors, you can do a lot more damage. If it has been grinding you may notice your rotor looking like it's been scratched
